The DPS Foundation is excited to announce the A to Z Fund recipients for the fall 2014 cycle! Since the Fund’s inception in 2006, the DPS Foundation has awarded nearly $1.2 million in support through 893 A to Z Fund grants. This fall 2014 cycle awarded $64,909 to 43 schools.

The A to Z Fund provides grants to individual schools for programs and activities that go beyond the school’s limited budget. The A to Z Fund ensures all DPS students have equal opportunity to participate in enriching learning experiences. All DPS teachers are invited to submit an application in this competitive grant process twice per school year in the fall and spring semesters. You can learn more here.

This cycle’s funding will support projects including:

  • CEC National Honor Society students will attend the Leadership Education and Development (LEAD) conference in Albuquerque. The conference offers students an opportunity to experience leadership, explore new ideas, and exchange concepts and resources with other high school leaders from across the country.
  • Denver Center for International Studies at Ford students will participate in an overnight field trip to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. Students will have the opportunity to participate in workshops about health, space and other sciences. Students also view a planetarium show, IMAX movie and sleep amongst the dioramas.
  • Downtown Denver Expeditionary School students will use A to Z Funds to bring together the Colorado Ballet in collaboration with the Denver Butterfly Pavilion for in-school workshops for a blend of movement and science instruction on the life cycle of a butterfly.
  • Hill Middle School band students will participate in small group and/or individualized instruction from the Colorado Honor Band Association (CHBA). Monthly, six members of the CHBA will work with students on their specific instrument through sectional classes.
  • Holm Elementary students will receive multi-disciplinary teaching of Shakespeare through a collaboration with the Denver Center for Performing Arts and the Colorado Shakespeare Festival. Beginning students will receive hands-on training to directly impact the students’ ability to connect with and understand the meaning in the text, as well as the styles and structures of Shakespeare’s works in general.
