DPS Foundation Launches Employee Giving Campaign with Matching Gift from Superintendent Tom Boasberg
DENVER, June 12, 2010 – The Denver Public Schools Foundation today announced that DPS Superintendent Tom Boasberg is donating more than $45,000 to the Foundation, in conjunction with its launch of a DPS employee-giving campaign. This gift, which includes all of the incentive pay and salary increase that Boasberg deferred during budget planning last year, will provide a dollar-for-dollar match of up to $25,000 for all employee giving between now and Dec. 31.
“Tom and his leadership team continue to be tremendous partners to the DPS Foundation in energizing and supporting our work, and the impact it has on the Denver Plan and DPS students” said Kristin Colon, President and CEO of the DPS Foundation. “This is yet another example of that partnership.”
“We also recognize and appreciate tremendously that many DPS employees are already donors to the DPS Foundation, including Tom,” Colon continued. “The opportunity to have an employee’s gift doubled through the Superintendent’s match is a great way to maximize our shared vision of building a bright future for every DPS student. We hope this generous donation inspires not only employees but also parents, alumni, business leaders and other members of the community to make a contribution today and drive investment in our schools.”
The DPS Foundation raises and manages funds in support of various programs that drive student achievement, including leadership development, resources for teachers and classrooms, and after-school tutoring and enrichment. Through strategic program investments, the Foundation supports Denver Public Schools in helping create a district where outstanding educational achievements are the norm and all children are given an opportunity to create a successful future.
“This is certainly above and beyond the call of duty," Denver Board of Education President Nate Easley said. "We’re lucky to have a superintendent here in Denver with the kind of leadership skills and commitment that Tom brings to the job. He also truly understands and values the critical role that the entire community plays in improving our schools, and this donation is clear evidence of that.”
"Tom's impressive dedication to making dramatic improvements to our schools is essential to the strength of our vibrant city and our business community," said Mario M. Carrera, Vice-President & General Manager of Entravision Communications Corporation and Chair of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Metro Denver. "All of us in Denver owe a great debt of gratitude to Tom and his family, first, for his work and depth of private sector experience imparted to Denver Public Schools and, second, for his generous financial contribution to the DPS Foundation that will go a long way to enhance the educational opportunities available to our children."
DPS employees can sign up for payroll deductions or donate directly online at www.dpsfoundation.org. The online giving form allows all donors to allocate their gift to a specific DPS Foundation program if preferred. Contributions of $100 or more designated specifically to after-school programs qualify for a 50% state income tax credit.
Employees are encouraged to identify their gift and qualify for the match by selecting the designated box on the online donation form.
“Employees are critical, in every way, to the success of DPS, and we’re excited to see participation in the employee giving campaign grow throughout the summer and into the next school year,” said Colon.
“The Foundation funds extremely valuable after-school and tutoring programs in many of our highest-needs schools,” Boasberg said. “I want to do what I can to highlight that important work in order to help encourage additional support for the Foundation, because it truly is an investment in our kids and in our city’s strength and future.”
