Steps to Establishing a Partnership

Step One: Contact Nicole Capage-Brown, School Partnership Program Manager by email or telephone 720.423.3553. Together, you will discuss your organization's desired contributions and preferences for partner schools (including elementary middle or high school, geographic location, student population etc.).

Step Two: The School Partners Program Manager will arrange and facilitate a site visit / meeting with one or more schools. During this visit you’ll have the opportunity to meet the school leadership and discuss the needs of the school.

Step Three: A partner school is selected based on mutual agreement between the principal and partner. Both parties should agree that there is a good fit between the needs of the school and the resources of the organization.

Step Four. With guidance from the School Partners Program team, a partnership plan is developed and the school and partners begin communicating directly. At every stage of the partnership, additional support and training is available by contacting the School Partners Program Office.

Strategies for Success

The School Partners Program is based on research conducted by the Daniels Fund and Schoolhouse Communications. According to these demonstrated best practices, there are seven key strategies that make a successful school/business partnership.

Strategy Two - Develop a well-defined and well-managed program that supports school-based partnerships.

Strategy Three - Make strategic matches between schools and businesses that advance a school’s improvement goals.

Strategy Four - Set clear expectations for schools and businesses.

Strategy Five - Provide training for school staff and business employees.

Strategy Six - Create a meaningful process for communicating about the program and recognizing the contributions of business partners.

Strategy Seven - Regularly monitor and evaluate each partnership and the overall program.
