Campos Marco9NEWS and the Denver Metro Chamber Leadership Foundation recognized Denver entrepreneur Marco Campos for his outreach to Denver Public Schools students with their annual 9NEWS Leader of the Year Award on March 20.

Campos is the Managing Principal at Campos EPC, a Denver-based pipeline engineering, procurement and construction firm. He has greatly contributed to STEM education efforts within Denver Public Schools and serves on the DPS College and Career Pathways Council, a group of Colorado leaders charged with advising DPS on the expansion of new STEM Career Pathways in high schools across the district. During the 2014 school year, Campos EPC hosted more than 65 students through the Career Pathways job-shadow program. These visits to the Campos EPC office provided DPS students with a valuable hands-on look at the engineering industry. Campos EPC also helped fund a brand-new Engineering Laboratory at MLK Jr. Early College that is used by 500 students per school year.

In 2014, Campos sponsored 28 students at a STEM summer program at CU-Boulder. While this program was a great success, this summer, Campos EPC is proud to be starting two brand-new engineering focused summer programs of its own- ENGINEARME at CU-Boulder and ENvision at Colorado State University. Through these week long camps, 100 DPS students will have first-hand experiences with engineering and a peek into campus life. Campos EPC has invested both time and resources to promote STEM education, with an emphasis on reaching female and under-represented minority engineering students.

Campos’ demonstrated commitment to DPS students proves that businesses of any size can play a meaningful role in supporting education in our community. To learn more and engage your business or organization in this work, click here.
