Thanks to more than 700 business volunteers, DPS students across the city received an extra boost in their efforts to learn to read this year. Through Power Lunch & TutorMate, volunteers were matched 1:1 with a student whom they read with throughout the year. In addition to invaluable practice around the mechanics of reading, this special 1:1 adult attention also increased students’ affinity for reading, reinforcing the lesson that reading is a fun and worthy activity. This school year, volunteers spent over 6,000 hours reading with DPS students – an incredible investment in our future! We are deeply grateful for our volunteers!
