When it comes to education, great new ideas deserve to be tested, proven and scaled. We support innovation in DPS, providing the funding to identify, incubate, evaluate and replicate the highest-performing and most exciting new strategies to help children achieve.
Denver Summit Schools Network (DSSN)
The DPS Foundation has helped fund one of the nation’s most ambitious and comprehensive school turnaround projects known as the Denver Summit Schools Network (DSSN) to improve an entire feeder pattern of persistently low performing schools in Far Northeast Denver. Early results from the DSSN showed many students advancing multiple grade levels of proficiency in a single year and a five-year record high in the number of students scoring proficient or advanced in math.
The DPS Foundation has helped DPS find funding to bring classroom innovation such as Blended Learning to schools across Denver. At Grant Beacon Middle School, blended learning has helped contribute to significant student gains – and has been a “game changer” in terms of how teachers are educating our next generation.
Collaborative Strategic Reading
The DPS Foundation provided a $5 million private match to leverage a $25 million “Investing in Innovation” federal grant, the largest in DPS history. The grant funded an innovative middle school reading program proven to help struggling students and English language learners – a key strategy in helping DPS close the achievement gap.
