The Denver Public Schools Foundation (DPS Foundation) is proud to announce real estate firm Grand Peaks and DPS educator Kedi Ochs as this year’s recipients of their Community Champion and Educator of the Year Awards. Grand Peaks and Ochs will be formally celebrated at the Achieve Gala 2025 on Thursday, April 17, 2025, where their contributions to Denver Public Schools (DPS) and the broader community will be highlighted.

“Now more than ever our communities need powerful advocates and innovators who create meaningful impact and DPS Foundation is honored to recognize Grand Peaks and Kedi Ochs for embodying the values of dedication, excellence and commitment to students and educators,” said Sara Hazel, DPS Foundation President and CEO.

Grand Peaks has been committed to excellence in real estate investment, development, and property management, while also demonstrating exemplary community involvement since its inception in 2003. Through its partnership with the DPS Foundation, Grand Peaks is addressing housing affordability for educators by offering one-year, rent-free leases to 10 early-career DPS classroom teachers. This groundbreaking initiative reflects Grand Peaks’ commitment to supporting those who shape the future of our community.

“We are incredibly thankful for our partnership with Grand Peaks. Their innovative housing initiative for educators is a game-changer in supporting the well-being and retention of teachers in Denver,” said Hazel. “By providing rent-free housing to early-career educators, Grand Peaks is not only easing a significant financial burden but also reinforcing the value and respect our educators deserve. This type of visionary philanthropy strengthens our schools, empowers our teachers and ultimately enriches the educational experience for students across Denver.”

Denver Public Schools’ Northfield High School teacher Kedi Ochs has been an unwavering advocate for DPS students and their journey to a brighter future. Originally from Namibia, Ochs understands the importance of a strong support system while navigating high school. Ochs’ ability to build meaningful connections in the classroom has left a profound impact on his students including Janelle, a 10th-grade DPS student who nominated Ochs for this recognition.

“When I was in 10th grade I was very shy but with Mr. Ochs’ help, he made me come out of my shell and create new long-lasting relationships,” shared Janelle. “Even when days were slow he made the class’s topic interesting and could make anybody laugh even if it was 8:00 in the morning.”

Ochs credits his own teachers and role models for helping him achieve stability and success in life and is committed to providing that same support to his students.

“Kedi Ochs is the kind of educator who transforms lives. His dedication, passion, and ability to connect with students make a lasting impact in and beyond the classroom,” said Sara Hazel. “Kedi’s journey is a testament to the power of mentorship and support, and his commitment to ensuring every student feels seen, heard, and empowered is truly inspiring. We are honored to recognize him as our Educator of the Year.”

The Achieve Gala 2025 will take place on Thursday, April 17, 2025. This celebration of student leaders, innovators, and change-makers will highlight DPS students as they share their talents, insights, and achievements on their path to becoming future leaders and impactful members of society.
