A solid foundation for a successful future starts very early in life. Meet a couple of our outstanding younger DPS students who are already taking advantage of the many activities and programs DPS has to offer.

Colfax_runners_Tierra 018Meet Tierra

Grade: 4

School: Johnson Elementary School

Region: Southwest Denver

Tierra currently serves on the student council, helping to coordinate school events such as carnivals and volunteer outings. Tierra’s class recently started learning the basics of health and science, in which she has developed a strong interest. When Tierra is not attending afterschool programs, at which she gets to play sports and take ballet classes thanks to a school partnership with the Colorado Ballet, she enjoys spending time with her many younger siblings. Her DPS teachers have taught her that she can do anything she puts her mind to if she is willing to work hard. Due to her newfound love of science and taking care of children, Tierra says she aspires to be a pediatrician when she grows up.

November 2015 040Meet Jaylynn

Grade: 1

School: Schmitt Elementary School

Region: Southwest Denver

Schmitt Elementary School teachers say Jaylynn stands out as a student who genuinely loves to learn. She likes to read, particularly about animals. Understandably, her favorite field trip was when her class went to the zoo. Thanks to encouragement by her teachers, Jaylynn is passionate about reading at a young age, and she says she would read all day at school if she could. When she grows up, Jaylynn wants to be a school librarian so she can teach other students the importance of reading and share with others how fun reading can be.

Help students like Tierra and Jaylynn reach their full potential. Donate today to give them the boost they need to achieve a bright future.
