Denver Public Schools Foundation Opportunity Fund
Utilizing Tax Dollars for Denver Schools
At the Denver Public Schools Foundation, we believe that when our students thrive, our whole city wins. That’s why we are exploring an innovative new way to keep individual’s tax dollars working directly for Denver’s youth.
With the full backing of the school district, we are preparing to launch the DPS Foundation Opportunity Fund—a specialized Scholarship Granting Organization (SGO).
Redirect Your Federal Government Taxes to Our Kids
“If you could give up to $1,700 to Denver kids, without it costing you a single penny out of pocket, would you do it?”
The DPS Foundation Opportunity Fund allows individuals who owe federal taxes to choose to redirect up to $1,700 of what they would normally pay to the federal government directly to the DPS Foundation instead.
A Quick Note on Your Taxes
Because this program operates as a dollar-for-dollar tax credit (directly reducing your tax liability rather than just your taxable income), we highly encourage you to speak with your accountant or tax advisor. They can review your specific tax situation, confirm exactly how much you can redirect, and guide you on how to claim the credit when you file.
Please note: The DPS Foundation cannot provide official tax or financial advice.
How It Works & Who It Helps
Dollars raised through this fund will go toward the success of Denver’s youth, split across three key areas:
- Academics
- Activities
- Emerging Needs

Our Unwavering Commitment
For more than 30 years, the DPS Foundation has been a trusted partner to Denver’s students, educators and families.
Debates about education policy will always exist, but our children’s needs cannot wait. When a unique opportunity arises to unlock potentially millions in new funding for public school students, we have a responsibility to pursue it.
We are committed to exploring every avenue possible to ensure Denver’s kids have the access, resources, and wrap-around support they deserve.
