DPS students enrolled in Camp HERO met Michael Franti June 8, at Red Rocks! The world-renowned artist and social activist welcomed 25 kids ranging in age from nine to 16 on stage, where he shared his inspirations and performed a song together with the kids.

Camp HERO, an initiative of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver, enrolls more than 250 kids in diverse programs and youth leadership in the summer months. Most of the enrolled students are from low-income homes and would otherwise have no access to programs in the out-of-school months. The DPS Foundation is a longtime partner and funder of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver through the Lights On After School partnership.

Joey Pace, a program coordinator with Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver, who also runs the camp, helped arrange the opportunity.

“You have no idea how much Michael’s music and art has inspired me in the work I do with our youth. To see these youth engaged and having fun with one of the coolest artists you will meet was totally inspiring,” said Pace.
